It's not Simon and Garfunkel, but Sunil and Rothenberg are reuniting again.
They've come together to formalize a USA bid for either the 2018 or 2022 World Cup. The one in 2018 is a long shot because of the ever-Eurocentric in the FIFA House, but 2022 is a succinct possibility.
It's cool to see. Like so many in this country, I truly became a soccer fan in the summer of 1994. I was sixteen years old. Teens like me had already been turned off by the baseball strike, and what we witnessed that summer was intoxicating.
That fall, back to school, every morning before heading out to catch the bus I'd replay a clip from a silly show on CNN during the World Cup called 'World Soccer Weekly'. It was a commercial for Reebok with an awesome tune, an awesome montage, and some of my favorite long-haired maestros. Batitstuta, Valderrama, and Larsson. Henrik fucking Larsson.
